I’m almost two weeks in now and I’ve established that I enjoy being in a learning environment again. The subjects are interesting, the people are nice and I can feel my brain sweeping out the cobwebs and flexing as it takes on new knowledge.
I like my subjects and my favourite so far is Fictional Forms. It has us examining various works of fiction and writing straight away, which is exactly what I wanted out of this degree. I feel like I’m in my element, as I powered through the set texts and did very well the opening writing task.
I have to say I’m a little surprised by the amount of reflective writing required, as opposed to formal essays. I’m not complaining though, it is pretty much the same kind of thing that I would be posting here, except more subject specific and is measure on participation.
I’m on the fence about the Journalism component. While it is an interesting subject, I didn’t expect that we would be thrown straight in the deep end to canvas our suburb for a story. That’s a good thing though, how else are we going to learn to dig for gold if we don’t start digging in our own backyards?
But overall, I’m having a blast going to classes and expanding my horizons.
