I’m not writing because Danger Mouse has come to Netflix.
The first time I watched Danger Mouse, I was a child on holidays with my family at my grandparents house. I went through some old VHS tapes looking for something to watch and came across this little gem.
My uncle recorded a few episodes on VHS years ago, but to an impressionable eight year old boy, it was pure magic. Every time we went back there I would re-watch that tape and be enthralled for a couple of hours by the weird and wacky adventures of the world’s greatest secret agent and his cowardly sidekick.
As I watch it again now in full on Netflix, I realise what a great source of adventure fuel it is. There’s plenty of inspiration here for crafting countless dungeon crawls and sinister plots for your players hack and slash their way through. I’m only a handful of episodes in and the wheels are already turning.
The dialogue was surprising and I don’t remember it being this funny. Even though some of the jokes are silly and dated, I found plenty of witty zingers in there. The whole episode with the giant chicken had me laughing.
I don’t know anything about the remake but there’s really no skipping this blast from the past.
